I have come to the conclusion that love is a very complicated factor of life. When a person falls in love they are first happy and somehow in the end they always suffer. Most of the time people fall in love without really knowing why. For example, Hana is in love with the English patient, who doesn't even know how much she cares for him. He lives in another world and pretends like she does not even exist. Caravaggio tells Hana that loving the English Patient will only bring misery to her. However, like most people in love she does not listen, but she does admit that she feels like she is loving a ghost.
Do you think the Hana romantically loves the English Patient? I don't think she does. I think the context of love between the English patient and Hana isn't romantic. I think Hana loves the English Patient as more of a family figure than someone she romantically loves.
